Official Results REVEAL Numerous Penalties Among RACERS as entire field SCRAMBLED after Penalties Issued

June 11, 2009 (Orange, CA) Robby Gordon, who on last Saturday late afternoon unofficially won the 41st edition of the SCORE Tecate Baja 500 was DETHRONED early today as the world’s premier desert racing series, SCORE International, handed out penalties from last weekend’s 432-mile race.

Gordon was heralded as the first 4-wheel vehicle winner after he drove his Monster Energy Hummer across the finish line in downtown Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Crossing the line first physically, Gordon bested the world’s top off road racers by a mere 5 minutes in time.

However, the inevitable “black box” tracking information needed to be examined in order to verify that Gordon didn’t violate the Mexico highway speed limits and deviate from the racecourse. It has been revealed the Robby Gordon was not penalized for course deviation, but was assessed a 10 minute penalty for exceeding the maximum allowed speed of 60 mph while traveling on the highway. Since Saturday’s race the Internet has been abuzz about what or if Gordon cut the course, but in fact, what has come about is a You Tube video of the #77 Monster Energy Trophy Truck fueling on the highway as the course exits from the San Vicente vineyards. The video clearly shows that Gordon is stopped taking on an 11-gallon splash of race fuel in his Hummer race truck, which is technically a violation of SCORE rules. Robby Gordon was assessed a 90-minute penalty for the fueling violation.

SCORE International completed the daunting task of examining all the tracking devices of both the SCORE Trophy Truck class and the Class 1 Unlimited Buggy class and only today released the list of penalties. (See Below)

In fact, Robby Gordon, who was the unofficial winner, moved from first place to seventh place after the assessment of 100-minutes of penalties. He was not the only racer at this year’s SCORE Baja 500 that received penalties.

The story of the week has been circulating among insiders that Robby Gordon and BJ Baldwin would both receive large penalties, but no one expected that nearly the entire field of racers would be subjected to penalties.

Of the 21 SCORE Trophy Trucks, only 5 trucks did not receive penalties and two of them did not finish the race.
