Johnson Valley, CA – Pistol Pete Sohren confirmed with DIRTnewz that he willing be competing in the upcoming newest Rock-Sport event, King of the Hammers.
Slated to be held on February 22, 2008, Sohren will enter a field of over 50 competitors from both the desert racing and professional rockcrawling disciplines, in an event that will shock the off road motor sports as one of the most exciting venues seen in the industry in many years.
The MAXXIS Tires sponsored racer is well-known for his wide-open mash the pedal racing style and will no doubt be one to watch in the desert and on the rock piles of Johnson Valley OHV area.
Sohren confirmed late Wednesday night that he will team up with a Utah-based rockcrawler in a rear-engine two-seat rock buggy for this 50-mile one lap race. Sohren finished the most difficult SCORE Baja 1000 race in history in fourth place among the elite SCORE Trophy Truck ranks.
PISTOLA has long been regarded as a smash-mouth racer and his ability behind the wheel in both the desert and rocks of California’s Johnson Valley OHV will certainly be tested. Perhaps Sohren will go head-to-head with his nemsis, the King of the Desert Assassin’s, Cameron Steele, who is slated to race with Lovell Rock Racing and the entire Precision Gear/Alloy Gear team at this first-time event.
Sohren commented, “I’ve been working hard to get a rig that will hold up to the rigors of the rockcrawling aspect of this race. The desert course is the easy part, but this rockcrawling is going to take talent. I’ll have a well-versed professional rockcrawler in the right seat so I believe we have a very good chance of putting MAXXIS Tires on the podium at King of the Hammers.”
