Dezert People 4 World Premier
Klaus Rasch in Da House!

In the mid-70’s the Oceanside Drive-In was filled with station wagons and big sedans complete with steamed windows from raunchy North San Diego county teens. Some 35 years later the Oceanside Drive-In is haven for the weekend swap meet drawing buyers to the worn asphalt theatre in search of cheap junk.

However, that all changed last night as the dirt nation arrived to fill up the Oceanside Drive-In for the San Diego premier of Dezert People 4, a wild off road film that has set the level high for the next generation off road film maker. McMillin Racing brought out Corky McMillin’s Class 1 Winning car, as well as Robby Gordon Motorsports Young Gun – Andy McMillin’s Class 1 machine that he shares with his dad, Scott McMillin. An array of pre-runners were on display, but the show stunner was the new Ford Prerunner Truck on display at the FOX Racing Shox trailer – Can you say “bling-bling?”

By 4:00 p.m. a steady stream of the off road nation’s San Diego contingent was rolling into the Oceanside Drive-In. Pflueger Racing / Monster Energy Drink’s Trophy Truck Race Team were there with the #28 Chevy Trophy Truck along with the entire Pflueger Race Team led by Crew Chief – John Hoffman. As the Pflueger nation captivated the audience with the latest in Monster Energy Drink, a couple of the #28’s top chefs took to the four foot wide grill and put together a carne asada feast to share with Pflueger’s fans and followers. This was classic Baja-style in the middle of old-school Oceanside.

"Got any stickers man?"

As the sun set into the Pacific Ocean the crowds continue to roll into the drive-in. Racers, fans and race crews alike shared the drive-in asphalt as the big screen illuminated and the familiar voice of ESPN’s Cameron Steele brought the crowd to life.

“Honk if you love Cameron more than the Scaronis’,” is one of the first comments that most people took notice of.

SMD Motorsports Trophy Truck Racer – Matt Scaroni later said, “You know next time I’m bringing a PA.” We grinned at Matt and thought, maybe going head-to-head with Cam Steele in the Trophy Truck world would be a decent bet, however going head-to-head with him on the microphone might be a “dicey” situation Mr. #27 TT. Ahhh---just more of the good natured fun associated with the world of desert racing.

"Where's the cameras???"

Of course, Cameron just back from a 12-day off road motorcycle tour along the entire Baja Peninsula was in fine form as he please the crowd in his introduction of off road’s latest film, DP4. Whether the horns honking were for or against the Desert “Ass”assin’s Kingpin, we’ll never know, but one thing we do know is the guy can make a grouchy old son-of-a-bitch laugh his ass off.

Filmmakers and event organizers, Curtis Guise and Klaus Rasch, arranged to have the movie audio broadcasted on FM 96.9 allowing the dirt nation to tune in from their car/truck stereos. So, imagine this if you will. Approximately 350 cars/trucks all tuned into FM 96.9 and the majority of them had the volume turned up, up and more up. Let’s just say it was pretty close to surround sound at the O-Drive in hood.

The Pflueger nation showed up in force

The DirtNewz Crew was situated near the back of the drive-in and thanks to FOX Racing Shox Manager – Todd Tenbroek and Westhoff Motorsports own Joey Westhoff the surround sound was in full effect for the large group of friends and family of the paparazzi clan.

However, once the movie debuted on the screen, the oo’s and ahhhhh’s that accompanied each sequence have once again demonstrated that DP4 is already a hit. The outpouring of support from the dirt nation will only continue as Dezert People 4 heads to Scottsdale, Arizona for the scheduled Monday night premier. The DP4 World Tour is rockin’ off the charts as tonight’s Arizona premier is merely a prelude to the big fiesta south of the border in Mexicali, Baja California on Tuesday and wrapping up the tour at Papa’s N’ Beer in Ensenada on Wednesday.
